Honey Soy Salmon

What is Honey-Soy Salmon

Today’s recipe for honey soy salmon all comes down to a simple yet delicious marinade made out of, you guessed it, honey & soy.  It is a perfect balance of salty and sweet thanks to the soy sauce and honey.  But also includes other flavorfully ingredients like lemon juice, garlic, ginger, and toasted sesame oil.

Trust me the combination is to die for!

Grill it, Bake it, or Cook it in a Pan!

Because the weather is still great where I live, today I will be grilling this salmon.  However, this salmon recipe can easily be applied for indoor cooking when the weather’s not so great.

For example, you can bake it in an oven.

Start by preheating your oven to 375℉ or 190℃.  Set the salmon pieces on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil, and place it in your heated oven.  Then let them bake for roughly 15 to 20 minutes or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.

Or you can cook it in a pan or skillet.

Just pour some oil into a pan/skillet and set it over medium heat.  Place the salmon pieces in flesh side down and let them cook 3 to 4 minutes for rare/medium-rare, or 5 to 6 minutes for medium/well done.  Then flip the salmon over and let them continue to cook in the pan for the same amount of time as before.  And with this method you can add the remaining marinade after you’ve flipped the salmon, letting it reduce into a thick and delicious sauce.

Tips, Tricks & Suggestions

  • Seafood has a tendency to stick to grill grates.  That’s why it’s always important that you grease your grill grates before cooking any type of seafood on them.  And while there’s a couple of ways to do this, my personal favorite is with some tongs and a paper towel.  Just pour some oil onto a plate and dip a crumbled-up ball of paper towels into it.  Then hold the oil soaked ball with some tongs and use it to grease the grates on your grill.
  • Don’t want all of that marinade to go to waste?  Then pour it into a small saucepan, and place it over medium-high heat.  Let this simmer and reduce for 5 minutes so that it thickens up and can be used as a delicious sauce.
  • Some sides I like to serve this with are our roasted potatoes, baked asparagus, coconut rice, parsley potatoes, or even sunomono.
