Thai peanut dressing is a savory, sweet, and salty sauce filled with aromatic flavors that can be used for so many occasions. It is perfect as a dipping sauce for chicken satay or even spring rolls. And can easily be thinned out and used in any salad for a rich and creamy dressing without the need for dairy or eggs.
Tips, Tricks & Suggestions
- Make it vegan: If you’d like to make this dressing vegan, no worries! You can easily omit the honey and substitute it with either agave nectar or maple syrup. Just keep in mind that maple syrup will give it a slightly different flavor, but it will still taste great!
- Make it gluten-free: Just like with honey, you can effortlessly make this dressing gluten-free by subbing out the soy sauce with tamari.
- Other types of nut butter: That’s right, even though this is a peanut dressing you can use pretty much any type of nut butter instead of peanut butter. Just keep in mind that some of these options might have less salt than your run of the mill peanut butter. So you’ll probably need to add a pinch of salt (or to taste) if you plan on using them.
- Adjusting the thickness: One thing I love about this dressing is that you can use it both as a dipping sauce or in a salad. However, depending on how you plan to use it you might want to adjust the thickness. If you want to use it as a dipping sauce then the consistency should be perfect as is. Though you can add a tablespoon or two of water if you’d like it thinner. But if you plan on using it as a dressing for a salad I highly recommend that you thin it out with some water. And this can range from ¼ to ½ cup, it really just depends on your personal preference. So if you’re unsure, start with just a splash of water and keep adding small amounts until it’s to your liking.
- Tip when using it as a dipping sauce: When using this as a dipping sauce I also like to crush a few peanuts to sprinkle over top. It just adds a nice bit of textural complexity that in my opinion really brings it to the next level.
- Use a Microplane: While it’s not necessary I highly recommend that you use a Microplane to mince the ginger and garlic. Mainly because it will result in super fine pieces that better incorporate into the dressing.
- Storage: Store this dressing in either a mason jar or better yet a plastic squeeze bottle. Just make sure to place it in your fridge and it will last for at least 1 week.
