Snack Mix (Game Day)

The Superbowl’s right around the corner which means it’s time to start thinking about the food we’re going to be serving at our party.  Everyone has their own favorite dishes to make, and I for one am no exception. For me, there are always three must-have items at my Superbowl party.  I’m talking about Buffalo wings, chips with homemade table salsa, and definitely some of my famous gameday snack mix. Ok maybe it’s not that famous, like at all, but it’s pretty damn good!

Now, to be honest, we’re not making anything new, or groundbreaking here. This is just my take on the classic Chex party mix, only better!  All I did was swap out a few of the ingredients with other snack items and kicked up the flavor profile by adding in a bunch of spices. It’s an improved version, and because of that, we’re going to be making a big a** batch of this stuff.

How big?

About 20 cups folks!

And that might sound like a ridiculous amount, but trust me this snack mix is like crack.  It’s going to go fast! But even if you’re stuck with a bunch of leftovers because your friends and family are on some stupid fad diet then no worries.  Just store the snack mix in an airtight container and you’ll be able to munch on it for weeks. So if you’re ready then let’s get to making our gameday snack mix.

Tips, Tricks & Suggestions

  • One of my favorite aspects of this recipe is just how customizable it is.  You can easily swap out any of the snack items with any other type of snack/cereal that you or your family prefers.  This includes potato chips, bagel chips, oyster crackers, sesame sticks, popcorn, Fritos, pork rinds, funyuns, wasabi peas, bugles, cheerios you name it.  Just make sure that whatever substitutions you make, you still have 20 cups worth of snack/cereal.
  • Swap the seasonings with about 3 Tablespoons of our bbq dry rub for a sweeter take on the recipe
  • If you like it spicy then try adding a couple of dashes of your favorite hot sauce to the seasoned butter.
