Hello class, today we’re back with another great recipe all the way from beautiful and sunny Portugal. During our last taste of Portugal, we tried out caldo verde, a creamy soup made with potatoes, collard greens, and sausage. You should really check it out if you haven’t already, it’s perfect for a cold day. However, it really starting to warm up where I live, so I’m afraid there will be no soup on the menu today. No today were are going to be making one of my new favorite shrimp dishes, It’s called shrimp mozambique.
If you’ve never heard of shrimp mozambique, or as they call it in Portuguese camarão moçambique, then you’re really missing out. It’s a simple and comforting dish composed of shrimp (Obviously) which has been smothered and cooked in a sauce composed of wine, butter, garlic, and hot sauce!
Umm, YES PLEASE!
Plus if you’re a person that has a busy schedule then you’re going to love this dish even more because It only takes 15 minutes to make folks. Yes, 15 frickin’ minutes! So, if you’re ready to add shrimp mozambique to your weekly rotation then let’s move on to the recipe.
Tips, Tricks, & Suggestions
- If you’re not a big fan of wine, or if you just don’t have any laying around then you can easily substitute it with beer. Just make sure that the beer you are using is a light lager.
- You can leave the shells on if you want, however, I prefer to take them off as it makes eating them easier.
- I’ve found that this dish is best served with either rice or some bread. Trust me you are going to want something to soak up all of that great sauce.
- This dish gets its name because traditionally you would use peri peri sauce, which is a hot sauce that comes from Mozambique. However, if you can find peri peri sauce then just about any type of hot sauce can serve as a substitute.

½ Teaspoon of salt
Juice from one lemon
Garnish:
Parsley, minced
Instructions
- Saute the onion and garlic: Get out a large pan, add the oil to it and place it over medium-high heat. Then add in the onion and saute it for a couple of minutes, or until it has begun to become translucent. Then toss in the garlic and saute it for another minute.

If I liked shrimp, I’d make this.
Oh come on Unc. Give it a try
Very tasty dish. I served it over riced cauliflower. Next time I will use less lemon juice. It kind of overwhelmed the sauce.
