Last week we celebrated our dog Josey’s first birthday. And in honor of the event, my mother whipped up a big batch of peanut butter banana dog treats. Just look at how much he’s grown up!

Now I know we tend to cover recipes for humans and trust me we aren’t changing our MO. But sometimes it’s nice to share a little kitchen love with our four-legged friends too. As the old saying goes, the more the merrier.
I guarantee your dogs are going to love these treats, all of our dogs do. They are super tasty, thanks to a generous portion of peanut butter, and bananas. Plus by making your own treats you can be sure that you aren’t feeding your dogs anything harmful to them.
Tips, Tricks, & Suggestions
- This makes a pretty big batch, and these treats can go bad after a week in the fridge. So I recommend that you freeze most of them and then defrost them when you need to.
- My brother’s dog Bandit suffers from really bad teeth. To compensate for this my mother typically reduces the baking time to 15 minutes instead of 20. This will result in softer treats.
Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats Recipe
Prep time: 10 to 15 minutes
Cook Time: 20 Minutes
Servings: 35 to 40 treats
Ingredients
3 Ripe bananas
2 Cups of whole wheat flour
1 Cup of rolled/old fashioned oats
¾ Cup of creamy peanut butter
2 Eggs
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300
- Mash the bananas: Peel the bananas and place them in a bowl. Then use either a potato masher or a fork, and mash the bananas into a puree.
- Mix ingredients in a bowl: Add the mashed bananas along with the other ingredients to a large bowl. Then use either your hands or a spoon to mix the ingredients together to make our dough.
- Flatten the dough: Get out either a piece of parchment paper or a silicone mat, and place it flat on your kitchen counter. Sprinkle a little bit of flour over it, and then place the dough in the middle. (You might have to do this step along with step 5 in two separate batches). Next use a rolling pin to flatten out the dough, until it’s about a ¼ inch thick.
- Cut the dough: Use any shaped cookie cutter you want (my mom loves the dog bone shaped one). After you have cut out the dog treats place them on a cookie sheet that has been covered with either parchment paper, or a silicone mat (it will make clean up a lot easier).
- Bake the treats: Place the treats in your heated oven to bake for 20 minutes.
- Let them cool off before giving to your dog.

From Miss Molly Says
Hello, this sounds like a really nice recipe, could you use unbleached all purpose flour?
Thanks
Yes, bleached flour, unbleached flour, and whole wheat flour can be all used interchangeably for any recipe, including this one. I hope your dog enjoys them! 🙂
How do u store them? How long do they stay good?
Hi Becky, You can either store them in a plastic zip-lock bag or any Tupperware type container. The treats will last anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks if stored in the fridge. But I personally like to keep them in the freezer, they will be good for at least 6 months.
