Margarita

Well, folks, it’s time yet again for all of us to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.  A holiday in which many Americans take the time to reflect upon the geopolitical importance of the Mexican armies defeat of the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla.

Ahh, who am I kidding?  Most folks don’t care about the history behind the holiday.  In fact, half of the people I know still think Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence day.  The truth is people just like having an excuse for binge eating Mexican food while getting pissed drunk.  And luckily I’m here to help you in that endeavor with a great, and easy recipe for classic margaritas.

Now before we move on I want to make it clear for everyone that today we will be making a classic margarita.  Not a frozen margarita, not a mango peach passion fruit margarita, just a back to basics simple margarita like God intended.  It’s composed of an easy to remember 2:1:1 ratio of tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. This means you don’t have to have a degree in mixology to whip one of these bad boys up.  Or two, or three?

So if you’re ready to get your drink on, then let’s continue on.

Tips, Tricks, & Suggestions

  • Try adding some chili powder to the salt for a spicy twist.
  • If you absolutely have to have a frozen margarita, then simply add the tequila, triple sec, and lime juice into a blender along with 10 to 15 cubes of ice.  Blend this all up and serve in the same salt lined glass.
  • As with any cocktail, I always recommend that you use your favorite brands of liquor.  However, if you don’t have a favorite brand then just use any mid-shelf tequila, never bottom shelf.
  • This margarita pairs well with our recipe for chicken enchiladas, and our recipe for fish tacos.
