I don’t know what it’s like where you live but here in Denver the summer heat is back with a vengeance. And while there’s plenty of time to sweat over a hot grill, today I’m more focused on cooling off with some homemade sorbet. Honestly, there couldn’t be a better summertime dessert. It’s cool, it’s refreshing, and best of all you don’t need to own an ice cream maker to make yourself a batch. All you really need is some fruit, honey, water, and a blender.
And today we are going to make one of my all-time favorites, mango sorbet. There’s just something about mangos that makes it the perfect fruit to use in a sorbet. Not only does it have a great flavor, but the texture of the mangos results in a sorbet that is extra creamy and smooth. So without further to do, let’s get to making our mango sorbet.
Tips, Tricks & Suggestions
- Fresh vs. already frozen mangos. Well, personally I like to use already frozen mangos because it’s more convenient. That being said if you use fresh mangos you will have more control over the quality of the fruit. If you need help in cutting up a mango then check out our lesson.
- Sorbet will last in your freezer for at least two weeks. That being said it is best if eaten within 24 hours of making it, or else the sorbet can become gritty and crystalized.
- Like most of my sorbet recipe, we will be using hard liquor as an ingredient. Not only does it provide a depth of flavor, but it also helps to ensure that the sorbet doesn’t crystalize. So what liquor should you use? Well, that’s entirely up to you, but my personal favorites are rum, and tequila.
- Want to make sorbet without alcohol? No worries, just sub out the liquor with water, you will still have a great tasting sorbet.
