Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting

Today’s recipe is going to be a fairly simple one, so I will try to keep this intro as short as possible.  Ok, so I am in the camp of people who absolutely love cream cheese frosting, and guessing by the fact that you are currently reading this post, then you probably are too.  And what’s great for lovers of cream cheese frosting, is that in addition to being super tasty, it is also incredibly easy to make.  All you need is four ingredients (cream cheese, butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar), a few minutes of your time, and a way to whip all of these ingredients together.  I mean it’s literally that simple.

Another awesome thing about cream cheese frosting is the fact that you can customize it in as many ways as your imagination can come up with.  Do you want a raspberry cream cheese frosting? Then simply add in some raspberry jam at the end. Do you want a peanut butter frosting? Then simply add in some smooth peanut butter at the end.  Do you want a pumpkin spice cream cheese frosting? Then simply add in some ground cinnamon and cloves at the end. Do you want a bright blue colored cream cheese frosting? Then simply add a couple of dashes of blue food coloring at the end.

I could literally go on and on with these examples like I said before it’s really only bound to the limits of your imagination. So please don’t be hesitant to experiment with it a little, you never know what kind of things you will come up with.

Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: None

Servings: 3 to 4 cups

Ingredients

8 oz. Cream cheese (softened)*

¼ Cup of butter (softened)*

1 Lb of powdered sugar

1 Teaspoon of vanilla extract

*To soften both the cream cheese & butter all you have to do is let them sit out at room temperature for a couple of hours

Instructions

  1. Whip the butter and the cream cheese:  Get out either a mixing bowl, or a stand mixer and add to it, both the cream cheese and the butter.  Then whip both of these together until they form a uniform paste.

  1. Add in the vanilla extract:  At this point, you will need to add the vanilla extract and mix it into the paste.

  1. Add the powdered sugar:  At the end, you will need to add in the powdered sugar, but it is very important that you add the powdered sugar in stages, or else it can mess up the final product.  So what I recommend is that you add about ¼ of the powdered sugar, then make sure to mix it into the paste properly before you add the next 1/4, repeating until you have added all of it.

  1. Store and Use:  Because this is a cream cheese frosting you will need to store it in your fridge.
