OOOHHH WEEEEE!!! It’s a hot one, today folks! The sun is out, the birds are chirping and I have absolutely nothing to do but grill and chill. Luckily I planned accordingly for this day and purchased something special to grill, lamb loin chops. And in my opinion, there is no better way to grill up these little beauties than with my recipe for garlic herb lamb chops.
Now I’m sure some of you might be saying “Patrick, I ain’t marinating my lamb chops, I’m a real man and I only eat them plain with salt and pepper!”. And as always that’s perfectly fine, you do you big boy. But if I’m the one putting all this money down on lamb chops then you know I’m going to marinate them. It’s just the safer option.
You see, lamb can be very hit or miss in the flavor department. Sometimes you get lucky and purchase some lamb chops that have a perfectly balanced and mild flavor. But every once in a while you’ll end up pulling the short straw and get lamb chops that have a strong gamey/muttony taste. And while I’d still eat a gamey lamb chop, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that it’s a very disappointing experience.
Luckily today’s marinade for garlic herb lamb chops solves this issue. It has just enough punch to mask any strong flavor, yet it is also mild enough to complement the lamb’s more delicate qualities. So if you are a fan of lamb chops and are looking for a new way to prepare them then you are going to love today’s recipe.
Tips, Tricks, & Suggestions
- While it’s not necessary I like to let the marinade sit all by itself for at least a couple of hours before using it on the lamb chops. It just allows the olive oil to absorb more of the garlic and herb flavor.
- Today I am using lamb loin chops, however, this marinade will also work great with either sirloin chops, or shoulder chops.
- You can put your own twist on this recipe by trying out other types of fresh herbs to use in the marinade. Let us all know if you stumble onto a great combo down in the comments section.
- My favorite way to serve these lamb chops is with some baked french fries, and a salad tossed in our greek vinegarette.
Garlic Herb Lamb Chops Recipe
Prep time: 1 to 2 hours
Cook time: 8 minutes
Servings: 2 to 3 people
Ingredients
6 to 8 lamb loin chops
For the marinade:
⅓ Cup of extra virgin olive oil
1 Tablespoon of red wine vinegar
1½ Tablespoon of fresh rosemary, minced
1 Teaspoon of fresh oregano, minced
1½ Tablespoon of minced garlic, should take 4 to 6 cloves
1 ½ Teaspoon of salt
1 Teaspoon of black pepper
Instructions
- Marinate the lamb chops: Mix up all of the marinade ingredients in a bowl. Then place the lamb chops in a walled dish and pour half of the marinade over them. Turn the chops over and pour the remaining half of the marinade over them. Let these chops marinate for 1 to 2 hours.
- Grill the lamb chops: Preheat your grill on high for at least 5 minutes. Then toss on the lamb chops and grill them for 3 minutes on each side for rare, 4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, and 5 minutes on each side for medium.
- Let the lamb chops rest for 5 minutes before digging into them. Enjoy!
