Almond Cherry Oatmeal Recipe

Ingredients

  • Cups of water or milk or a combination of both
  • Teaspoon of salt
  • 1 Cup of old fashioned oats
  • 1 Cup of cherries pitted and cut into halves
  • 2 Tablespoons of either brown sugar honey, or maple syrup, or more depending on preference
  • ½ Teaspoon of cinnamon or more depending on preference
  • ¼ Teaspoon of cardamon optional, or more depending on preference
  • ¼ Teaspoon of ginger powder optional, or more depending on preference
  • ½ Teaspoon of almond extract or more depending on preference
  • Sliced almonds as a garnish optional

Instructions

  • Cook the oatmeal: Combine the water/milk and salt in a medium saucepan and place it over high heat. Once the liquid comes to a boil add in the oats and cherries. Stir all of these ingredients together and reduce the heat to a simmer. Continue to stir everything for at least 5 minutes or until the oats have soaked up the liquid and have formed a thick oatmeal. Once it is thick to your liking take it off the heat.
  • Flavor and adjust the oatmeal: Add the sugar/honey/syrup, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and almond extract to the oatmeal. Stir to combine everything together and then taste the oatmeal. If it tastes good to you then you are done. Or you can adjust the oatmeal by adding in additional sweetener, spices, or almond extract depending on how you like it.
  • Serve the almond cherry oatmeal immediately and enjoy!
