Well, I’ve finally caved in to all the peer pressure and jumped on the overnight oats train. That’s right class today’s recipe is overnight oats, or to be more specific blueberry and banana overnight oats.
I really don’t know why it took me so long to give overnight oats a try. I guess I just viewed the whole concept as just the latest installment in a long line of food fads. That’s not to say that all food fads suck, I just have an aversion to most things new and over-hyped.
Luckily, my absolute love of all things oats caused me to forget these inclinations. And after trying overnight oats I have to say that I finally understand the hype. They’re not just pretty good, they’re pretty damn good. In fact, I’d be willing to argue that overnight oats are even better than regular stovetop oatmeal!
But if you still need convincing then why not try out today’s recipe, blueberry banana overnight oats.
Tips, Tricks, & Suggestions
- Unlike regular oats, overnight oats are meant to be eaten cold. However, if you want warm oats, simply remove the metal mason jar lid and nuke the oats in the microwave for about a minute.
- I am using whole milk in my overnight oats, however, you can easily sub that out with any other type of milk. Skim milk? Yes. Soy milk? Yes. Almond milk? Yes. Whatever new form of alternative milk that happens to be the fad de jour two years from now? Ummm, probably yes. As long as it’s a liquid it should work.
- You don’t have to add the chia seeds if you don’t want to, however, I highly recommend them. Not only do they have a ton of additional nutrients, but they also make the oats creamier.
