Balsamic Vinaigrette

When I was a young whipper-snapper I didn’t care for salads.  I mean who would want to eat a bunch of leaves anyways.  But, as an adult, I’ve changed my tune, a complete 180 folks.  So much so that I am now of the opinion that most meals aren’t complete if they don’t come with a side salad.

Now, over the years I have made a variety of salad dressings, but I have learned through my experience that simple and basic, is often much better than complex and unique.  That is why I would like to share with you my balsamic vinaigrette recipe, which as you will learn is the epitome of a simple and basic salad dressing. Pour it over a salad of lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and you have a healthy and refreshing side to any meal.  So, enough talk, let’s make this balsamic vinaigrette.

Balsamic Vinaigrette Recipe

Prep time: 1 Minute

Cook time: None

Servings: 1 Cup

Ingredients

¾ Cup of extra virgin olive oil

¼ cup of balsamic vinegar

1 Tablespoon of dijon mustard

1 Tablespoon of honey

1 Teaspoon of garlic powder

½ Teaspoon of salt

½ Teaspoon of black pepper

A pinch of dried oregano, rosemary, and marjoram *

* These are common herbs that I have found to work well with this dressing.  However, the types of herbs and amounts are up to your personal taste. If you really like rosemary, then add two pinches of it.  If you don’t like thyme, then don’t add thyme.  Or if you really like dried basil, well then add dried basil.  It is really up to you.

Instructions

  1. Add the oil and vinegar together:  First, find a container to make and store the salad dressing in, this can be either a mason jar or an old container from store-bought salad dressing.  Make sure that the container is cleaned out and dry. Then add the ¾ cup of extra virgin olive oil and the ¼ cup of balsamic vinegar.the oil and vinegar in a jar

  1. Patrick,
You’ve been paying attention while at the mountain house, this is very close to my world famous dressing. Need to add some seasoned salt and course black pepper. Also some seasome oil infused in the olive oil. Finally suggest a more viniger, say 50 to 60 percent. Go ahead and use my suggestions, no charge.

It’s a little similar yes, but trust me I wasn’t try to do a knock off of your famous dressing. Tell you what, next time I’m at the mountain house, or any other family function, you should show me how to make your dressing and I’ll feature it on here. Giving you all due credits of course.
