My family loves asparagus, especially when it is in season during the springtime. One of our all-time favorite ways to cook up this delectable veggie is to basically put it on a cookie sheet, and bake it in the oven. That’s right “Baked asparagus”. Right near the end we sprinkle a little shredded parmesan cheese on top that melts perfectly on top, and folks I tell you, you got something good going.
Before you start cooking asparagus it is important to understand that you need to remove part of the bottom end, as it is often woody, and unpleasant to eat. One commonly know tip for cutting off this fibrous part of the asparagus is to bend it until it breaks
Then you simply use the top piece as a template to cut the other pieces.
Baked Asparagus Recipe
Prep Time: 2 minute
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
1 bundle of asparagus
Olive oil
Lemon pepper
Optional: Shredded Parmesan Cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
- Cut and place the asparagus on an oiled cookie sheet: Use the tip I provided above to properly cut the asparagus. Then oil a cookie sheet with olive oil, and place the asparagus tops out evenly on the cookie sheet, and drizzle a little bit of olive oil on top of them. Once that’s all good crack some lemon pepper on top. If you don’t have lemon pepper then you can use salt and pepper, just make sure to use only a little salt if you are going to put parmesan cheese on your asparagus, as the parmesan already has a lot of salt in it.
- Bake for 10 minutes: Put the asparagus in your heated oven for roughly 10 minutes. This will produce asparagus that is a little al dente, which my family prefers. If you like your asparagus a little bit more cooked, then simply leave it in the oven for an extra 5 minutes.
- (Optional) Add parmesan cheese: One minute before the asparagus is done take it out and sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on top of it. Return it to the oven for another minute, or until the cheese is melted to your liking.
- Serve, and enjoy
