This apple bread is the perfect treat for the fall season. It’s super moist with chunks of apples in every bite and perfectly spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg. Trust me you’re going to love it!
Tips, Tricks & Suggestions
- What are the best type of apples to use?: As with any recipe that requires baking apples it’s best that you stick with apple varieties that are firm, not soft. The reasoning behind this is that firm apples will turn soft when baked, while soft apples will turn to mush. And no one really wants that! So stick with firm varieties like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn. And stay away from soft varieties like Red Delicious.
- Does the bread need to include nuts?: No, the chopped nuts are totally optional, and omitting them from the recipe won’t have any effect on the bread itself.
- Don’t over-mix the batter: It is very important when making the batter for this bread that you don’t over-mix it. If you do you will end up with a tough loaf of bread. So when combining the wet and dry ingredients to make the batter mix just until the dry ingredients (like the flour) disappear into the wet ingredients.
- Add some extra sweetness and transform this apple bread into a full-on dessert by topping it with our homemade Powdered Sugar Glaze.
- The toothpick test: Everyone’s oven is different. Most have hot and cold spots, and some even have faulty temperature gauges. Both of which can affect the things you bake. That’s why you should never rely on time in the oven for determining whether something is fully baked or not. Instead, use the toothpick test. When the bread looks like it’s getting close to being done, poke the middle with a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out with some batter attached that means the inside isn’t fully baked and needs more time in the oven. But if it comes out clean that means your good to go! Trust me this test never fails.

Apple Bread Recipe
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 60 minutes
Servings: 1 Loaf of bread
Ingredients
For the apples:
2 Cups of peeled and chopped(roughly ½ inch chunks) apples, should need 2 large apples
½ Cup of brown sugar
½ Teaspoon of ground cinnamon
For the batter:
1½ Cups of all-purpose flour
½ Teaspoon of baking soda
¼ Teaspoon of baking powder
¼ Teaspoon of salt
¼ Teaspoon of ground cinnamon
¼ Teaspoon of ground nutmeg
2 Eggs, at room temperature
½ Cup of granulated sugar
½ Cup of butter, melted but not hot
1 Teaspoon of vanilla extract
½ Cup of chopped nuts, like pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350℉/177℃.
- Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with either some nonstick spray or butter and set it aside.
- Prep the apples: Combine the peeled and chopped apples in a small bowl with ½ cup of brown sugar and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon. Set this aside and move on to the next step.
- Make the batter: Get out a large mixing bowl and add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg to it. Use a whisk to combine these ingredients together and set them aside. Next, get out a separate mixing bowl and whisk together the 2 eggs and the ½ cup of granulated sugar. Then add the melted butter and vanilla extract and whisk until they are incorporated. Finally, add the wet ingredients to the bowl of dry ingredients and whisk everything together until it just forms a batter, you don’t want to overmix it.
- Add the apples/sugar/cinnamon mixture we made before along with the chopped nuts to the batter. Use a wooden spoon or silicone spatula to gently fold these ingredients into the batter.
- Pour the batter into your greased loaf pan.
- Bake: Add the bread to your heated oven and let it bake for a total of 40 to 60 minutes. However, after about 20 to 30 minutes of baking check on the bread. If the top looks like it’s getting too browned up then loosely cover the top with aluminum foil. You will know that the bread is fully cooked when a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
- Take the baked apple bread out of the oven and let it rest in the loaf pan for 1 hour before transferring it to a cooling rack.
- Slice up the apple bread and enjoy!
